Welcome to our 2024 disc sales breakdown! Lots of interesting storylines for us to get into, so buckle up =)
In this wrap-up we’ll go over the Top 100 selling molds for the OTB website from 2024. These sales do not include any wholesale numbers, purely B2C. We’ll dive into the dominance from the MVP family, the decades long battle between Innova and Discraft, and some cool trends that we noticed overall. We’ll add a bit of 2023 statistics for context and maybe even guess some molds to rise up the charts in 2025. Let’s dig in!
MVP Family (Axiom/MVP/Streamline)
Wow! What a performance!! Axiom with a commanding lead, holding down the top brand by a good margin and ALL OF THE TOP 5 SPOTS for top discs of the year. We certainly have a strong tie with MVP due to the OTB Open – that being said, the top two molds did not have an OTB Open release.
The Pixel (#1) leading the way is a perfect illustration of the impact of someone like Simon Lizotte. The Pixel was also a perfect fit for a bit of an empty space in the MVP/Axiom lineup, a nice beadless, slightly deeper putting putter. MVP has long dominated the throwing putter space, with the Envy (#2) and Proxy (#19). You can even count the Glitch (#11) in there as a great putter, but not necessarily one chosen for putting on the green, more for approach shots. The Pixel had the advantage of being a brand new mold in January, celebrating roughly the one year anniversary of the Simon signing and during the same release as the Eagle announcement with the Prism Proton Envy drop! Brand new mold and all year to rack up some great numbers.
The Envy held the same #2 spot in 2023 – twice a runner-up! Boosted by the aforementioned Eagle Envy drop, this uber popular mold got off to a great start in January and never looked back. Can’t wait to see what fun runs are in store for the Envy in 2025.
The Hex (#3) asserts its dominance as the top midrange of the year. This mold benefitted from having two OTB Open releases – Prism Proton and Proton Soft. A straight-shooting, super reliable 5-speed, the Hex was #1 in 2023 thanks to the Lizottl’ drops in January and October, as well as a couple OTB Open releases (Proton and Neutron Soft)!
The Crave (#4) continued to be great, anchored by its amazing flight, a long-awaited Eclipse (glow) release and a solid OTB Open drop in the Neutron Soft plastic.
The Trail (#7) is a fascinating one. A very solid release in July, the first 10-speed ever in the MVP family, the Trail started fast and really held a great pace throughout the entire second half of the year. I’d be very curious to see how it would have performed if it had the entire year to show what it can do. Definitely keep an eye out for the Trail being at or near the top of the list for 2025. Congratulations to James Conrad for a great new mold! It has become a staple in the bags of many – pros and AMs alike.
Also making waves Simon’s new distance driver, the first 12 speed ever from MVP, the Time-Lapse (#9). This mold dropped in 2023 and had a great debut at #8. Slipping to 9 doesn’t feel so bad and shows that it wasn’t just a flash in the pan.
We could go on all day about the other molds that made the Top 100 as the MVP family represented 34 (15 Axiom, 17 MVP, 2 Streamline) spots! One last fun mold to mention out of the wide array is the Dimension (#28). The Eagle ‘Wynn Dragon’ run was a super popular run! Its flight coming out much more understable than expected was a bit of a blessing in disguise, as it ended up being a perfect max distance driver for the masses.
Discraft vs Innova
As someone who has been playing since the mid 90’s, I love that this competition rages on. These two companies were so close in 2024, Innova moved a small percentage more in total discs, but Discraft had a higher total amount sold, dollar-wise. We’ll dig into Innova first.
Innova
The Destroyer (#6) continues to stand the test of time, even showing a rise from its impressive #10 spot in 2023. With the Wraith (#10 in 2024, #12 in 2023) as a nice understable complement, Innova shows that its high speed drivers are always something to contend with in these rankings. I would expect these molds to again carry the load for 2025.
The Aviar (#18), to no surprise, is Innova’s most popular putter. This mold has the benefit of being able to include all types of Aviars. The KC Pro versions certainly carried the way, accounting for over ⅓ of the total. Next was the beadless versions, with a really close matchup of Classic vs Putt & Approach – very slight edge to classic. The Yeti and JK versions followed closely behind. They had a good battle, with the Yeti taking the win there. Aviar3 and AviarX3 were not included.
The Rollo (#30) is worth addressing (and throwing!). Such a unique offering as a crazy understable midrange/driver hybrid. This mold helps to show that if you are able to bring something new, fun, and very usable to the market – golfers will be sure to try it! We had a Swirly Star version that was exclusive to OTB that helped these numbers. We’re getting down to the last few boxes now!
The Gorgon (#34) fits a very similar description to the Rollo, just twice the speed (5-speed Rollo, 10-speed Gorgon)! With a debut roughly halfway through 2024, the Gorgon made a big impression in a small amount of time to achieve its rank.
Staples like the Tern (#36), Firebird (#44), TeeBird (#46), and Mamba (#49) keep Innova’s numbers looking great all year long. Innova had 21 different molds represented in the top 100, showing how well rounded and robust their lineup truly is. Will this go up or down in 2025 (it was only 17 in 2023)??
Discraft
One of the things that is most true about Discraft is their willingness to provide a wide variety of plastics for every mold. If you look at the number of active product pages for their molds on our site, it’s staggering! There are 76 pages for the Buzzz (#14) and 67 pages for the Zone (#8). Compare that to just 21 unique product pages for the Destroyer and only 4 for the Pixel! The Zone and Buzz being at the top is no surprise. The Buzz was 6th last year and 2nd in 2023! The Zone was 4th and 3rd, respectively.
The Luna (#13) narrowly edged out the Buzzz this year to take the #2 spot for Discraft. It was nice to see the Luna get run in a lot more plastic types for 2024! Traditionally, it was pretty limited to the stock rubber blend run and a select few other small batches each year. The stock run still outpaced most of the runs – the only one that moved a few more units was our exclusive Super Soft run (shameless plug, if any store wants to stock these or others, hit me up).
The Kratos (#15) was a nice new addition to the Discraft lineup. The new mold is a beaded version of the Luna and featured an exclusive run of Glo plastic in support of Faylor Lake! Also included were the Prototype, First Run and Tour Series.
The Cicada (#29) made a great splash as a newcomer. Staples like the Nuke (#25) and Raptor (#26) held strong in 2024, raising the floor of what Discraft achieves each year. The Raptor is an interesting one as the Captain’s Raptor is included. The same is true for the Thrasher (#47). This brings me to my final point for Discraft, player discs.
We’ve already seen the Luna and Kratos representing Paul’s lineup. His other molds in the top 100 include the Hades(#49), Athena (#62), and Anax (#68). Paige’s lineup shined with the Passion (#33) and Fierce (#83) both being well represented. We’re excited to see what is in store for 2025 including Ricky and even the Climo discs that will be considered a separate brand, but still related.
In total, Discraft had 19 in the Top 100 list and had another great showing in 2024!
House of Discs
I debated keeping these brands separate, as there is good cause for that. Ultimately, I like grouping them together for a few different reasons. It keeps things nice and tidy for a quick breakdown, it gets the total percentage right in line with Discraft and Innova, and it’s a fascinating case study for how to look at a disc golf manufacturer.
Discmania led the way in sales as a sub-brand and with the top disc, just getting into the top 20 with the DD3 (#20). This included the sales of the Cloud Breaker, which is arguably not a DD3 anymore. Gannon’s run of the disc and his popularity in general dictated some of the success of the molds to come. The FD (#42) and Link (#43) both benefited from specific Gannon-related runs and the Link had a ton of sales based on being the putter that he chose to use for that the year. Keep an eye on the P2x making a big splash in 2025!
Discmania had great representation in the Top 100 with 11 molds represented. 7 of these molds came from the ‘Originals’ line and 4 from the ‘Evolution’ line. Discmania did a good job getting a wide variety of molds in the mix, from staple putters like the Rainmaker (#74), P2 (#75), the Spore (#93) catch disc, fairways, mids, and distance drivers all included!
Latitude 64 had great showings with the Pure (#22) and Grace (#47), both staples in Kristin Lätt’s bag. There were Orbit runs of both that featured Krisin’s name and sold very well throughout the year. The River (#70) and Diamond (#76) were the only other entries from the brand, both very usable and glidey discs that are well loved by many! Interesting to see so few ranked discs from a brand that had a good amount of sales overall. Latitude 64 sold 56% as many discs as Discmania, but only had 36% as many molds in the Top 100.
Kastaplast, to no surprise, was led by the Berg (#! The Reko (#81) also made the list, showing how putter dominated the brand can feel (the Lots was the only driver in the top 200 for the brand). Players love the Berg for its unique no-glide flight and the Reko is a well-loved putter that has been in the Top 100 every year, hovering around the #70-80 ranking.
Dynamic Discs did not have an entry in the Top 100, which felt like a surprise! Looking back to 2023, Dynamic only had one entry in the Top 100, the Judge (#45 in 2023, #109 in 2024). Dynamic has a handful each in the 100 and 200 range. The same is mostly true for Westside with the Underworld being the top ranked at #134.
Prodigy
The one and only ranked disc for Prodigy was the PA-3 (#31). Long a staple and very well loved putter, the PA-3 held strong for Prodigy. At the end of the year it ended up accounting for almost a third of the total sales for the brand! The 2nd highest ranking mold, the PA-5 was all the way down at #166. Last year showed a very similar patter with the PA-3 ranking #26 and the next best mold being the F7 at #144.
Clash
This was a nice fresh face to see! The Wild Honey (#45) topped the charts for the Finnish brand, a nice jump from #123 last year. Also represented was the Vanilla at #94. These sales were boosted by a fun, exclusive run of each that we had in their Swirly Steady plastic. It was very fun to bring those to the market and now they have a whole line of discs in that beautiful plastic!
Gateway
The Wizard (#95) once again reigns supreme! Accounting for over 40% of sales for the brand, the Wizard remains one of the most popular choices for golfers across the globe. Ranking #86 last year, the mold has a strong presence year after year. Boasting a wide-array of great feeling plastics, if you haven’t checked out a Wizard, it is well worth a try!
Thought Space Athletics
Sneaking a couple mids in at the last second! The Pathfinder (#96) and Crux (#99) made sure that our Top 100 had some TSA lovin’. Known for their amazing art and discs to match, Thought Space does a great job getting beautiful designs into the hands of players everywhere. Anchored by some great drops with Eric Oakley and James Proctor, the Thought Space discs had some successful releases to jump into the top ranks. Keep an eye out for even bigger things in 2025!
As we look ahead to the year to come, it’s going to be another exciting battle at all stages! Will MVP stay on top as they keep adding star power? Discraft adding not just a 2x World Champion, but a 12x under the new Climo Discs brand – depending on the rollout of that new brand, I’d expect to see them make a big splash in 2025!
