Endangered Species Series
OTB and Todd Kurnat present a wildlife preservation project that blends disc golf, art, giving, education, and conservation.
The sport of disc golf has a strong relationship to nature. Each course is shaped by its local environment providing us with a unique experience we love to return to. These amazing spaces that contribute to the character of each course are also home to an abundance of flora and fauna. With this series we intend to celebrate wildlife and inspire people to be curious about their environment leading to a deeper connection with Mother Nature.
The first endangered species we’d like to spotlight is the Tricolored Blackbird, a native to Northern California. Its shrinking habitat makes it the most at-risk Aves in the Golden State. This particular, feathered friend prefers to live near water, such as marshlands, where insects are abundant. When considering the historical and ongoing droughts in California, it’s easy to see why this bird is threatened.
Your purchase of this disc will directly support the conservation of the Tricolored Blackbird. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Golden Gate National Conservancy, an organization focused on building a community dedicated to conserving the parks for the future.
PRO TIP: How can you directly help the Tricolored Blackbird beyond purchasing a disc with cool art on it? Reduce your water consumption in any small way you can. Water Hack: use a bucket to caption the water as you warm up your shower. Use the water on your house plants.
Love combining dope designs by local artists with charities that make a positive impact!! Thank you!!
The champion thunderbird is a staple in my bag. It works well as a backhand and forehand driver, and plays well in the wind. It’s also my go to tomahawk disc for those situations where you’ve got no other play. And the stamp on this special edition is great!!
