Proton Deflector – One of the favorites here at OTB, the Deflector is one of the best midrange utility discs on the market. With a super flat and beadless feel, this super overstable midrange can handle any power you can put on it forehand and backhand. The Deflector has the normal gyro overmold technology that all MVP Discs have. It is one of the most overstable discs in the MVP lineup, more overstable than the new Pyro from sister company Axiom, the two make a great pairing. If you need a disc you can crank over on forehand and have it fight out and not cover a ton of distance, the Deflector is perfect for you. Great for low shots that have huge flare skips and great for shorter spike hyzers.
Here is a short quote from MVP about the Deflector: “The Deflector is here to combat headwinds and produce powerful overstable flights in all conditions. It answers the call of many fans looking for a slower speed disc with powerful overstability. On an anhyzer release the disc will fight out of its turn and flatten out to fade. On a hyzer line the disc will follow a smooth fade with a pronounced stable finish.”
Speed 5 | Glide 3 | Turn 0 | Fade 4 |
Absolutely love this disc. Not as overstable as a Zone OS, but more than a Swarm, which was exactly what i was hoping for. This thing can be put on a ton of anny for forehand and it will come back. It’s also a very fast 5 speed. Compared to the Swarm, it not only is more OS, but it flies further too somehow. Best of both worlds. Highly recommend for strong forehand players, or anyone looking for a usable beefy mid.
Overstable midrange
I swapped out my Zone OS for the Deflector because it feels much more comfortable in my hand (being more shallow) – especially forehand.
I’m not saying they’re interchangeable for everyone, but for what I use them for, it’s been a good switch.
More stable than my Pyro – I use it almost exclusively on woods courses (still figuring it out) but it fades hard. Get it on the perfect angle and you can also get some monster skips.
So far I really enjoy the Deflector, even though I’m definitely still figuring it out.
I wanted something even more stable than my Pyro, mostly for scrambling and navigating unique sections of woods courses. The Deflector definitely fits the bill.
Great for sharp flex lines, and you can get great skips or have it bite sharply and sit depending on the angles you use.
I look forward to increasing my confidence with it.
Incredible overstability
Beefy in flight and in the hand. Love all my MVP mids.
Junior beef next to neutron plastic.
I’ve replaced my zone and my zone OS with this single disc. It’s beefy but predictable, flys pretty far for the beef.
Beef max beef mid range
Awesome disc more stable than an MD5 but feels even better in the hand with no flashing and a super smooth rim profile.
